A 32-year-old nurse has tragically passed away from cardiac arrest after working on the frontlines of the battle against the coronavirus pandemic for nearly two months.
Zhang Jingjing died from heart complications after spending 56 days putting her own health on the line to treat coronavirus patients in Hubei, China.
As the young woman was undergoing compulsory quarantine with the promise of being allowed to return home after, she suffered a cardiac arrest and passed away, leaving behind a husband and their 5-year-old daughter.
The hardworking nurse, who treated patients at Qilu Hospital, was seen posing in front of the camera in an emotional video taken days before she would be allowed to return home.
“We will be home and meet again very soon,” she said in the video.
As Zhang finished her 14-day quarantine and tested negative for the novel coronavirus, she collapsed on the following day, just moments before her scheduled return home.
While Zhang was working at the hospital, her husband Han Wentao found himself trapped in Africa where he had been working as a construction contractor.
According to the man, he and his wife couldn’t see each other in person ever since December.
“I still feel numb. I can’t believe everything. Hold on there, my wife! Our family can’t live without you!” the husband wrote on social media as the medics were attempting to bring Zhang back to life.
As the Chinese Embassy confirmed according to the reports, they are trying to find a way to bring Han from Sierra Leone back to China.
