A 33-year-old nurse from Florida has passed away from coronavirus after treating patients with COVID-19 without a face mask.
Danielle DiCenso developed symptoms of coronavirus while working in the ICU unit at Palemetto General Hospital without being given protective gear.
She was found lifeless in the living room by her husband David after she self-isolated but her condition quickly worsened.
David claims staff at the hospital did not give his wife proper equipment, leaving their 4-year-old son without a mom.
The mother-of-one is the latest healthcare worker to die from coronavirus amid concerns of a shortage of face mask and other protective gear.
Around 10 to 20 percent of coronavirus cases in the US are healthcare workers, according to data.
In an interview with WTCJ, David said: “She always puts people first before her. She showed up for work one day and they didn’t have a mask for her.”
He added: “It really broke her heart that she couldn’t perform her job at a place she felt safe at.
“She had lots and lots of text messages between her and coworkers saying they were not properly equipped and (Palmetto officials were not) representing what was really going on at the hospitals.”
It was on March 23 when DiCenso, who had no pre-existing conditions, took a coronavirus test and her symptoms started showing two days later.
Her condition quickly deteriorated until she was found dead by her husband.
“It was a rough four- or five-day struggle between that,” David expressed. “It was a rough four- or five-day struggle between that.”
The heartbroken husband told WPLG: “Just by looking at her, I knew that she wasn’t her lively self. She looked so peaceful. She looked like she just went in her sleep.”
He added: “I know for a fact that my wife would still be here right now if she was given the proper protective equipment. I’m very upset. My 4-year-old son’s not gonna have a mother.”
