A 68-year-old nurse who loved her job to the point she refused to retire when the time came has passed away from coronavirus while working on the frontlines of the battle against COVID-19.
Liz Glanister is a hero nurse from Aintree University Hospital in England who was diagnosed with the disease after treating patients with coronavirus.
Sadly, the infection turned out to be severe and the hardworking nurse has passed away.
In a series of tributes paid to Glanister following her death, friends and colleagues have claimed the nurse continued to work beyond retirement because of her love for caring for other people.
“It is with great sadness that I can confirm that Liz Glanister, a long-serving staff nurse at Aintree University Hospital, sadly passed away at the Royal Liverpool University Hospital on Friday after being tested positive for Covid-19,” Dianne Brown, a chief nurse, said in a statement after the 68-year-old’s tragic passing.
“All our thoughts are with Liz’s family at this time and we offer them our sincere condolences. Liz will be sadly missed by all those who knew and worked with her.”
Glanister’s death followed shortly after NHS health workers “united in grief” were caught on camera paying their respects to a deceased midwife who died from coronavirus.
The touching moment occurred at Princess Alexandra Hospital where a midwife named Lynsay Coventry was honored by her colleagues after her premature passing.
At just 54 years old, Coventry has passed away from COVID-19, prompting her coworkers to gather in the hallway and bow their heads in respect of her memory.
“This is what our maternity unit in Harlow looked like on Friday. My friends, work colleagues and work family all united in grief!” Rachael Marchant wrote as she shared the heartbreaking photo online.
“We stand apart to minimize spread but stand together in mourning the loss of our midwife. Part of us has been lost but we still go on with our work for you all.”
The midwife went on to beg people to stay at home and avoid going outside and potentially catching or spreading the novel coronavirus.
“I would give anything to stay home with my three children and stay away from this deadly virus, but I can’t. I hope you sleep well my beautiful friend. Until we meet again,” she added.
