ICU Nurse Took Her Life At The Hospital Where Coronavirus Patients Are Being Treated


A young intensive care unit nurse has taken her own life at the hospital where coronavirus patients are being treated and where several people have already died from COVID-19.

As the Mirror reported, the staff were trying to resuscitate the unnamed British nurse, who was in her 20s, after finding her unconscious on the floor of the hospital on the evening of Monday, March 23.

According to the reports, the young woman is believed to have treated patients in the ICU at London’s King College Hospital prior to her tragic passing.

Following the nurse’s death, the spokesperson for Met Police explained that she “was found unresponsive” at the hospital and that “officers attended.”

“The woman, aged in her 20s, was treated and later died in hospital. Next of kin have been informed. The death is not being treated as suspicious. A file will be prepared for the coroner,” they said.

The tragic death was also confirmed by the hospital whereas the spokesman added they were in the process of “offering support to their family at this difficult time and would ask that their privacy is respected.”

In another unrelated incident that occurred in Italy, a 34-year-old nurse who was working on the coronavirus treatment frontlines has taken her own life after being diagnosed with COVID-19.

According to The National Federation of Nurses of Italy, Daniela Trezzi, who worked at a Lombardy hospital, was under “heavy stress” after learning that she had been infected with the novel coronavirus.

Fearing that she may have infected other people while doing her best to save lives, the 34-year-old took her life after getting diagnosed with COVID-19.

As The Daily Mail reported, Trezzi, who was working at Hospital San Gerardo, had been quarantined after she started exhibiting symptoms of the disease and tested positive for coronavirus.

Following days of self-isolation, during which the nurse was “not under surveillance” according to the hospital manager Mario Alparone, Trezzi is believed to have taken her own life.

“Each of us has chosen this profession for good and, unfortunately, also for bad: we are nurses. The condition and stress to which our professionals are subjected is under the eyes of all,” The National Federation of Nurses of Italy said in a statement according to The Daily Mail.

In addition, the federation, which expressed “pain and dismay” over the nurse’s death, has claimed that a similar suicide case involving a nurse has previously occurred in Venice.
