A trainee nurse, who was diagnosed with chronic kidney disease, is getting married to her fiance after he gave her one of his kidneys.

22-year-old Geraldine Chingosho started dating 27-year-old Aldo Cataldi before she was diagnosed with chronic kidney disease.
The couple first met while they were working at a care home. She told him to leave her after learning about her diagnosis of chronic kidney disease. But, Aldo didn’t leave her.
She said: “I told Aldo that he should leave me. I didn’t think it would be fair to be lumbered with a sick person. He said he’d be there for me no matter what.”
When they couldn’t find a donor, they found out Aldo was a perfect match hours after he proposed to her.
The couple went to Portugal to celebrate Geraldine’s birthday where Aldo proposed to her. The same day they found out he was a perfect match.
Geraldine said: “He woke me up in tears. I asked: ‘What if we break up?’ He said: ‘At least, I’ll have saved your life’.”
He gave her one of her kidneys at University of Leicester Hospital and the operation was successful.
Geraldine said: “I’d never have asked my fiance to give me his kidney. I was stunned to find we were even a match. Aldo has saved my life. I can’t wait to spend the rest of my life with him.”
“He’d come from work after a 12-and-a-half-hour shift. He’d bring food, help me dress, speak to the doctors… He was my superhero.”
Aldo, who is also a nurse, said that donating his kidney was a normal thing to do for him.
He said: “The most important thing is she’ll feel better and have a better quality of life. It was the right thing to do.”
The couple is now getting married this year.
