An NHS nurse was spat at by a nasty man who called her ‘virus spreader’ amid increasing events of abuse directed at healthcare workers.
Amy Hall, 28, was in her uniform when she was approached by a man in a Lidl parking in Waterlooville, Hampshire.
The ‘middle-aged man’ shouted bad words before trying to spit on the lady who was stepping towards a shop.
Ms. Hall works in Verina Daily Care where she provides daily assistance to elderly and helpless people.
The nurse was out for purchasing some flowers for her mom to celebrate Mother’s Day but the upsetting incident spoiled all her mood.
Recently, the Director of Public Prosecutions warned about the rising incidents of people deliberately abusing, spitting and coughing on the medical workers.
Speaking about the attack that happened to her on March 21, Ms. Hall said: “It was an adult who said “you’re a virus spreader” and I kind of said ‘you will spread the virus’.
“Quite a few people stood up for me outside.
“Everyone let me get to the front of the queue. It was quite surreal. I can’t believe that some people have got that view about us.”
She added: “I was on my way to buy my mum a bunch of flowers I could leave on her doorstep for her on Mother’s Day. It was shocking.
“We’re obviously trying to help our elderly to get through this difficult time and don’t appreciate being spat at.”
Some doctors said they got really disturbed when they were being spat at after returning from tiring 10-hour shifts, caring for corona patients.
The number of such incidents has kept on increasing in the past few days.
Even though the crime rate has declined significantly during the lockdown, reports of anti-social activities have risen with 59% more happenings as compared to the previous year.
