A 59-year-old nurse, who works for a local GP surgery and cares for the elderly and vulnerable at their homes amid coronavirus lockdown, is unable to go to work after her car was destroyed in an attack.
Sylvia Hunter, from Farringdon, Sunderland, found the windows of her red Skoda damaged by thugs in a late-night attack on Friday, April 10.
Sylvia is now unable to go to work as the attack has caused up to £500 worth of damage to her car.
Sylvia’s 21-year-old granddaughter Adelle Turner has now created a fundraising page in order to raise £500 so her grandmother can go back to work.
Adelle said Sylvia is left shocked and angry after the attack in a difficult time like this. She told that her grandmother loves helping the elderly and vulnerable but now, she is unable to visit them.
Adelle said: “She’s a bit shook up and quite angry. It’s frustrating because she wants to be able to help these people, she doesn’t want to be sat at home doing nothing.”
Adelle said her grandmother would not forgive herself if anything bad happens to her clients.
She added: “She really cares about them and wants to get back to helping them.”
She said it’s frustrating as they need one person to fix the windows and another to do the paintwork which is very difficult during the lockdown.
Adelle thanked the community for their support and told that they are getting a lot of positive messages from people who are willing to help.
Adelle wants people to donate in order to raise £500 so her grandmother can go back to work. She says the car needs £500 repairing and they will donate the remaining amount if they could raise more than £500.
Adelle said: “If something positive can come out of this then that would be great. I think we all need a bit of community spirit and togetherness at a time like this.”
