A mother was left heartbroken after a nursery banned her daughter from joining because they were afraid that her deformed skull would scare off other kids.
As dad Rasul and mum Svetlana Gizatullina from Russia revealed, the staff of the nursery even went as far as telling them that their 2-year-old girl, Sofya Zakharova, should undergo surgery if she wanted to be accepted.
Baby Sofya was born with an unusual skull malformation that caused a bulged forehead as well as fused fingers and toes.
While the parents were waiting for surgery, the doctors told them it was vital for the child to interact with other kids in order to properly develop.
“The sooner she gets the experience of interactions, the easier it will be for her to cope with the conditions in which she lives and grows,” Psychologist Ekaterina Belan said in an interview.
“The more interactions she gets, the easier it will be for her to accept herself for who she is.”
As upset parents added, the school refused to budge even after a local charity picked up their case and defended their right to have Sofya enrolled.
“First, you need to arrange an operation so she can go to nursery school like an ordinary child,” the mother recalled being told by the nursery.
Radiy Khabirov, the Republic of Bashkortostan head, also spoke out and revealed that the officials are on the family’s side.
“I understand that if it were not for the intervention of the charitable foundation, there would have been no meetings on this and no relocation,” he said.
“It’s already clear that the rights of the child and parents are violated, and there will now be an appropriate legal assessment.”
