Nursery Introduced A 100 Percent Vegan Menu For Its Children But Parents Slammed The Decision


Britain’s one of the first nursery to introduce a 100 percent vegan menu for its 260 children, aged 0-4 has been slammed by parents.

Jigsaw Day Nurseries in Chester has introduced a 100 percent vegan menu for its children but parents are not happy with the decision.

The nursery has removed meat, fish, eggs and dairy products from its menu and has introduced a new menu that is 100 percent vegan.

However, this didn’t go down well with the parents of the children as they criticized the nursery for taking the decision without consulting them.

One mother said: “Just to enforce it on us without any say isn’t right – they shouldn’t be making these decisions on my behalf. If my daughter wants to be a vegan when she’s older then that’s fine but I’ll have that conversation with her myself. There’s obviously no cheese, which my daughter loves, and no meat or the goodness from fish. It’s such a huge, drastic change and I’m not happy about it.”

While another parent said: “To impose a lifestyle choice on these children before they can make their own mind up is plain wrong.point 317 |

If anything it discriminates against those kids who enjoy a diet of meat and fish.point 68 | To ban them from eating meat is outrageous.point 104 | Its simply not their decision to make.point 136 | point 139 | 1

However, the founder of the nurseries, Claire Taylor defended her decision of introducing the 100 percent vegan menu for its children. She said the food they serve their children is ‘highly nutritious, varied and sustainable menu which meets all of the relevant guidelines for early years nutrition and diet for children under the age of five.’

Meanwhile, several parents supported the decision as one parent said: “It’s like saying you don’t want your children to be educated in what will save our planet.point 357 |

Vegan or not, this is an incredibly healthy sounding menu and I am thrilled our son will be eating this kind of food.point 95 | point 98 | 1

Mrs. Taylor said she understands and appreciates the response from some parents but she assures that their food is highly nutritious.

The nursery will be serving 100 percent vegan dishes from January 2020.
