Michelle and Barack Obama are reportedly trying to acquire a Martha’s Vineyard estate from Boston Celtics owner Wyc Grousbeck for $14.
85 million.
The 7000sqft main residence features seven bedrooms and nine bathrooms. Outside the house, there is a chef’s kitchen, a swimming pool, 29 beachfront acres, and two guest wings.
Grousbeck had the estate on the market for 4 years, first listing it on the market in 2015 for $22.5 million.
The former President and First Lady rented out the house for the summer and they quickly fell in love with it so much that they wanted to buy it. However, they haven’t paid the full amount, the TMZ reported.
In 2017, the price was reduced to $16.25 million and again to $14.85, according to realtor.com.
However, it wasn’t a done deal yet as the property is in escrow.
The Obamas won’t be the first Presidential family to make a purchase on the Massachusetts Island.
Jackie Kennedy-Onassis also kept a property there until she passed away in 1994. The summer resort was famous with the entire Kennedy dynasty.
Grousbeck’s former house has huge amounts of land if the Obamas wished to expand.
“It’s a remarkable home on an absolutely gorgeous setting,” said listing agent Tom Wallace. “Privacy is a key feature of the property.”
“It certainly has the capacity to expand to more of a compound. One could build two additional full-size properties if one wanted to create a generational meeting place,” he added.
Barack and Michelle Obama will have a lot of space to enjoy and relax as the master bedroom opens up to a sundeck. Their children will also have many rooms for long summer breaks.
21-year-old Malia is currently studying at Harvard University while 18-year-old Sasha goes to Sidwell Friends School in Washington D.C.
