In a shocking video, an octopus was seen returning to the beach where it nearly died to thank its rescuer a day after she saved its life.
Confirming that all of this is possible is a 2010 study in which the researchers concluded that octopuses can remember and recognize human faces.
In the study, octopuses were seen swimming away from humans who previously irritated them while caressing and reaching out to those who fed them.
Back to the story at hand, Helena shared her strange encounter on YouTube and admitted she’s never going to eat octopus again after what happened to her.
“While walking along a lovely beach, we saw a stranded octopus in the sand. We were not sure if he was already dead. So we pushed him back into the water. He needed some minutes to recover, then he swam away,” the woman wrote in a YouTube video.
Much to Helena’s surprise, the same octopus returned to the beach and stayed with her family for almost an hour on the following day. During his visit, Kurt the octopus was reaching out to Helen and trying to touch her constantly.
“He stayed with us for about one hour and wanted to touch us all the time,” Helen added.
“We are sure that this octopus came back to thank us for saving his life. It’s amazing how intelligent animals are.
“We named him Kurt. And we will never eat octopus again…”
