A police officer, from Logan, Utah, is going viral on the Internet after he sang “You Are My Sunshine” for an elderly woman.
Logan police officer Kristian Johnson arrived at Shirley Hardman’s house after there was a kitchen fire in her home.
Hardman, who is blind, said she was heating a muffin when the microwave started beeping.
She was home alone so she called the operator and asked for help.
Johnson arrived at her home to help her with her microwave. He fixed the microwave and asked the woman: “Is there anything else I can do for you?”
“Do you sing?” Hardman said.
“No, I — I don’t, I’m not a good singer,” Johnson said.
“You could start now,” Hardman said.
Later, Johnson said in an interview: “I realized right then and there that she expects a song, and I can’t say no to this lady.”
Johnson asked: “What would you like to hear? How about some Frank Sinatra?”
Hardman said: “You Are My Sunshine.”
At her request, the officer sang “You Are My Sunshine” for the elderly woman.
“It’s not uncommon to get a call — well, it’s the first microwave I’ve ever fixed — but it’s not uncommon for the elderly to need some help; there is just no one to help them and they don’t know who else to call. And if they call us, we go — that’s just what we do” Logan police officer Kristian Johnson said in an interview.
Hardman said: “I felt kind of stupid … but because of the previous problem, I was being very cautious. He was so pleasant and he had such a nice voice — he stood there and sang it beautifully.”
“I couldn’t stand for him to just come and turn off the microwave and go home, so I just felt we needed to communicate a little further, so I invited him to sing and by gob he did. I felt nervy to ask him”, she added.
The heart-melting video of the officer singing for the elderly woman went viral and left people in awe.
