It can be hard to lose a good friend.

We saw an amazing farewell a mother had for her beloved dog, which helped her with the pain. Unfortunately, not everyone is given a chance for such a beautiful farewell.

Sadly, there is no true solution to helping ease the pain of loss. We can only hope to ease the pain slightly.

Sometimes, though, we are blessed with the chance to find something new that won’t replace the beloved friend, but does help us move on, without forgetting.

Kristin Sarkar, found of Releash Atlanta, knew of Eiko and Officer Humphreys. She heard of the loss and was heartbroken, but she also wanted to honor Eiko in a way he would’ve wanted. Releash Atlanta is a group dedicated to finding homes for animals who are having a hard time being adopted.

With the blessing of the Humphreys, Kristin began a series of events that would end up saving another dog’s life in honor of Eiko.

Kristin had just recently met another dog who was a German shepherd just like Eiko. Unfortunately this poor pooch was suffering from a leg injury, which veterinarians believed was due to a snake bite.

The shelter was unable to help this poor dog and he was scheduled to be euthanized if no one came to adopt him.

Unfortunately, Kristin Sarkar originally thought she would be unable to accept the dog, so they left the dog to his sad fate.

On her way home, Sarkar remembered Eiko and decided this would be how Eiko was honored.

This dog was happy to be taken off of death row and placed into the loving arms of the Humphreys family.

The Humphreys named this rescued dog EJ which is short for Eiko Junior. A beautiful way to remember their friend. As you can see above EJ is absolutely loving his new home.

The most adorable thing about this? EJ actually loves to sit in the exact same spot that Eiko used to! EJ will definitely help the Humphreys grieve and move on from their loss, never forgetting their best friend.

A truly touching tale that shows that even from the worst situations, new friendships can grow.
