Three police officers have been shot by an active shooter who barricaded himself in a home together with alleged hostages whom he reportedly threatened to kill should the police enter the building.
The situation remains active as of this writing and is taking place in Cedar Park, Texas, just some twenty miles away from downtown Austin.
According to the Cedar Park Police, three officers have so far been shot by the shooter who barricaded himself inside a home in Heritage Park Subdivision.
“We are on scene of a shooting where multiple Cedar Park Police Officers have been shot while responding to a call at a home off Natalie Cove. Subject is barricaded inside the home and multiple law enforcement agencies are on scene,” the police force announced in a tweet at 4:28 pm local time.
Following nearly an hour after the initial tweet, the police department confirmed that three officers have been shot and rushed to the hospital.
“At this time we can confirm three Cedar Park Police Officers have been shot. They are at a local hospital in stable condition. This remains a very active scene, the subject is not in custody at this time,” the update read.
According to Police Chief Mike Harmon, he visited the police officers who were shot and they remain in a stable condition.
The police chief also warned people to stay away from the Heritage Park Subdivision due to the situation still being active.
According to unconfirmed reports, the active shooter may be holding children as hostages. “I’m being advised it’s a hostage situation, shooter claiming to kill children if police enter,” Austin PD officer Bino Cadenas said.
