The drivers in Clearwater, Florida found a bald eagle on the road and when they tried to shoo the bird away, it didn’t move.
When they couldn’t shoo the bird away, they called the police who later blocked two lanes of the busy road.
The eagle was injured and a team of volunteers from the Owl’s Nest Sanctuary for Wildlife was called in.
It turned out the eagle was hit by a car and its right-wing was injured.
The Clearwater Police Department wrote on its Facebook page: “Clearwater Police and Clearwater Fire & Rescue were on scene this morning…. after an eagle was injured and sitting in the middle of the road.”
“It appears that it was hit by a car while trying to feed off a dead animal…. Police officers and firefighters teamed up with a wildlife rescue specialist to corral the eagle and it was taken away for treatment. The injury was to its right wing.”
Thankfully, the eagle survived the surgery and is now recovering. The Facebook page of The Clearwater Police Department shared the good news that the eagle is recovering.
They said that the eagle was being treated for a bone chip and bruising on her wing.
The Clearwater Police Department wrote on its Facebook page: “The eagle has landed at Busch Gardens, where she is being treated for a bone chip and bruising on her wing. The bone chip was removed during surgery and she will be undergoing rehabilitation there. The goal would be to release her in the same area she was found once she is healthy enough.”
