Thanks to the coronavirus pandemic, the demand for face masks has shot through the roof.
While there have been conflicting guidelines about whether or not one should wear a face mask in public, the supply of critical medical resources has become difficult for both individuals and health organizations alike.
That’s why a lot of manufacturers have modified their production lines to produce items such as ventilators and face masks in order to meet skyrocketing demand. One of these manufacturers is Old Navy and the company just announced that they plan to sell non-medical face masks. One can even pre-order them at the Old Navy website now.
The masks come in both adult and children’s sizes. Old Navy is just one among several fashion and beauty retailers that have stepped up to help in this crisis and their products should help relieve the pressure to buy medical face masks that hospitals and healthcare workers need more.
The Banana Republic had already come out with their own face masks and they unsurprisingly sold out online almost the instant that they were released. There’s no reason to think that Old Navy’s masks would fare differently so if you want some for yourself, you’ll need to hop onto their website.
The cloth masks are made from the extra fabric that is leftover from the brand’s clothes. Each pack contains five masks and retails for $12.50. The masks have different surprise patterns such as Old Navy’s signature checkered, plaid, and nautical prints. Since they will be using excess material from their existing manufacturing line, the company says that the masks can be produced sustainably.
The 3-ply masks are machine-washable and the material is made of 100 percent cotton poplin for a mask that is both comfortable and effective. As they made the announcement to launch the mask, they added that they are also donating 50,000 masks to the Boys & Girls Clubs of America.
The CDC advises Americans to wear face masks in public such as when in the grocery store or pharmacy. This will help slow the spread of the virus. The coronavirus can travel through the air via droplets released by coughing or sneezing. Having a mask will catch those droplets and make it less likely for an infection to occur.
Since people don’t usually know who is infected (even themselves) until symptoms start to show, it only makes sense for everyone to wear masks when in public.
Other brands that are also offering face masks include the following:
Reformation
- Sanctuary
- Caraa
- Onzie
- Casetify
- Los Angeles Apparel
It’s a small investment that could have a big impact on the community.
