Olivia Rodrigo has shared that she made a visit to the white house and exposes the strange gift she received from the president.
Olivia Isabel Rodrigo, 18, is a Filipino-American singer-songwriter and actress. She is known for her roles as Paige Olvera on the Disney Channel series Bizaardvark and Nini Salazar-Roberts on the Disney+ mockumentary series High School Musical: The Musical: The Series.
The pop icon recently appeared on Jimmy Kimmel Live on October 26 and discussed her trip to the White House where she met President Joe Biden.
Olivia visited the White House over the summer to help get the word out to young people about the COVID-19 vaccine. She met with President Joe Biden, Vice President Kamala Harris, and Chief Medical Advisor Anthony Fauci, to discuss her efforts.
During her appearance on the show, Olivia explained how everyone she got to meet there was “so kind,” including President Biden and Dr Fauci.
“White House is just the coolest place,” she said. “I was so nervous to go. But I, like, walked in there, and there is like all these plates that like George Washington used to eat his dinner on.”
“And all of this crazy stuff,” she added. “I was like, scared I was going to sneeze and break a priceless artifact. It was crazy. But I walked out, didn’t break anything. Thank God.”
While she didn’t break any priceless artifacts, she arguably walked away with a few.
In a photo with President Biden, both he and Olivia are wearing a pair of his signature aviator sunglasses. So Jimmy asked if she was gifted something by the president or if she brought her own.
“He gave them (sunglasses) to me, actually,” Olivia said. “He gave me a few gifts. He gave me those. He gave me some M&Ms, and he also gave me a shoehorn, which is strange.”
During her appearance on the show, she told Jimmy Kimmel that she did not notice the unique gift she was given as it was wrapped in a bag.
And after listening about the gifts she received, Kimmel was rather shocked by Olivia’s gift admission and had trouble keeping his laughter contained.
“Well if you ever thought Joe Biden was too old to be president,” Kimmel jokingly said. “Now we know he is. He is giving out shoehorns.”
Olivia had proudly posted her visit to the White House on her Instagram where she shared a picture with President Biden and penned an endearing note along.
“Had the absolute honor of visiting the White House today and chatting with @potus about the importance of getting vaccinated!” she wrote on Instagram.
“Even if you are young and not immunocompromised, getting your covid vaccination is the best thing you can do for your health and your loved ones’ health,” she wrote. “YOU have the power to save lives. check out vaccines.gov to learn more about vaccinations and to find a vaccination center near you (it’s free and super easy.)”
“Thank you to everyone who has done their part in helping end this pandemic and thank you to President Biden, Vice President Harris, Dr. Fauci, and everyone at the White House for having me,” the singer continued. “EVERYONE GET VAXED IT’S SO IMPORTANT.”
According to a CNN report, the pop icon will record videos about the importance of young people getting vaccinated, including answering questions the youth have regarding the vaccination.
The 18-year-old singer influences the younger demographic as her songs address teenage grievances like heartbreaks and conflicts.
