Cop Showed Up At The Door When An Online Drinks Session Was Mistaken For A Forbidden House Party

The Sun

A cop who thought he was going to break up a house party discovers that it was just a group of friends having an online drinks session.

The online party was organized by Gemma Cullen, 34, from Paisley in Scotland, to cheer her daughter up because her 13th birthday was spent in lockdown.

Friends and family from around the world took part in the five-hour-long party and took turns dancing, playing music, and taking over to ‘get the next round’ of drinks.

But Gemma got a bit of a surprise when a police officer showed up to make sure that social distancing guidelines were being followed.

Gemma, from Govan, described what happened when the cop showed up.

“There were six of us at the video party, all having a wee bit of wine, dancing and playing music,” she said.

“My friend Melissa in Paisley was all dolled up and dancing with her cat round the kitchen to Usher.

“She went away from the camera after a bit and when she came back on, I could see her talking to someone.

“I thought she’d sneaked in her boyfriend but suddenly a policeman popped onscreen and said: ‘Hi Gemma, how are you?’”

Despite her shock, Gemma still managed to joke to her friend: “You’ve ordered us a stripogram!”

But the policeman laughed: “I’m not doing my stripogram tonight, ladies.”

It appears that neighbors thought Melissa McCall, 35, was having a forbidden house party after seeing her dancing with her cat. With a nationwide coronavirus lockdown in place, huge gatherings are discouraged.

But the cop was quick to reassure the girls that there was nothing wrong with the online rave and even stayed for about ten minutes to chat before saying good night.

Gemma added: “He was so nice about it and said we’d made his night.

“They must be so busy at the moment and get called out to a girl dancing in the kitchen with her cat – they could have been annoyed but they weren’t. I think they’re doing an amazing job.”

Gemma even said that this week’s rave is already in the works, this time with family from Gambia, South Africa, Australia, Paisley, and more ready to join in.

“It’s good to bring a wee bit of laughter to people at the moment,” Gemma said.

“It’s about lifting the mood and bringing everyone together – even the people you don’t speak to that much.”
