People have been left puzzled after a man shared a photo of what appears to be a flying ship at first sight.
The optical illusion was caught on camera by Colin McCallum who was driving through Aberdeenshire, Scotland, when he spotted what he first thought to be a large boat floating in the sky.
After taking a closer look at what was going on, however, the man discovered an awesome optical illusion was responsible for making the ship appear as if it was flying through the air rather than sailing on the water.
“Saw a real-life optical illusion in Banff today,” Colin wrote as he shared the video and photos of the ship on Facebook.
Soon enough, the picture went viral with perplexed netizens trying to figure out how the unaltered footage and photos were even possible.
“When I first saw the boat, I had to do a double-take because I genuinely thought it was floating. Upon further inspection, however, I noticed that it was in fact just a remarkable optical illusion,” Colin explained.
“It was caused by a cloud formation closer to the shore which changed the color of the water closer to the land.
“The boat, being further away, was in a cloudless area and therefore the sky reflected the sea – making it look like the boat was floating.”
Following the photos’ appearance on Facebook, the optical illusion quickly went viral with people admitting they find it hard to believe what they see.
