Alyssa Milano has finally spoken out after being slammed when she set up a GoFundMe page for her son’s baseball trip.
The Charmed star and her husband, David Bugliari, said on the fundraising page that it the funds would help their son’s team, Birds 12U, reach the Cooperstown destination for a major tournament.
The funds would also cover other expenses including family dues and uniforms.
Posting on Twitter, Milano wrote: “My son’s baseball team is raising money for their Cooperstown trip. Any amount would be so greatly appreciated. You can read more about the team and make a donation here.”
Even though the money was meant for the entire team, many people were quick to question why Milano had to setup a fundraising page when she could pay for the entire amount.
One person commented: “Imagine being so out of touch that you ask your followers to contribute money to your child’s trip when you have a net worth of 10 million dollars. This is gross. Pay for it your own damn self.”
Another asked: “When did #GoFundMe become a way for millionaire celebrities to fund their kids baseball trips?”
A third said: “I’m trying not to be salty but Alyssa Milano asking for donations for her son’s baseball team while I’m trying to refill all my life-saving meds before the end of this month due to tech layoffs is sending me.”
Someone else added: “Erm Alyssa, honey. You’re a millionaires. And I’m sure your son isn’t playing in a team based in the projects.”
After facing backlash, Milano has now defended herself and claimed that she has contributed a lot to her son’s team.
“I’m getting media inquiries about whether I have financially contributed to my son’s baseball team,” she expressed.
“I’ve paid for uniforms for the entire team and coaches, thrown bday parties, and sponsor any kid who can’t afford monthly dues.”
She also said that “the kids also do fundraising themselves” in the form of movie nights, car washes, and “many other fun things,” before adding that those who have contributed to the gofundme “made things easier for these boys and their families.”
