Amber Heard returns to the big screen as she reprises her role as Mera in Aquaman 2.
In the 2018 DC film Aquaman, Heard’s character Mera played a major role as Arthur Curry (Jason Momoa)’s love interest.
But Mera’s presence in the sequel is notably scaled back and was only featured on screen for 15 to 20 minutes of the 124-minute movie, Business Insider reported.
Heard only has a total of eleven lines throughout the movie and many of her lines were reduced to simple expressions, a stark contrast to her substantial and emotional conversations in the first movie.
Mera mostly appeared in the beginning and end of the film but the character was removed from its central plot.
She also has limited interaction with her newborn son, Arthur Jr.
During Heard’s defamation trial against her ex-husband, Johnny Depp, she claimed that her role in Aquaman 2 had been significantly reduced.
She revealed that she received a new version of the script that removed fight scenes involving her.
Heard said at that time: “I fought really hard to stay in the movie. They didn’t want to include me in the film.”
The trial between Depp and Heard gained worldwide attention, with a Change.org petition calling for Warner Bros. to remove the actress from the sequel gaining over 4.6 million signatures.
Heard also claimed that many of her action scenes were removed and that she had to fight to stay in the movie.
But Walter Hamada, the former president of Warner Bros.’ DC Films, refuted her claims and explained that Heard was never intended to be a co-lead in Aquaman 2.
