Amy Schumer has revealed why she decided to turn down the Barbie role that eventually went to Margot Robbie.
Robbie is set to star alongside Ryan Gosling in the movie, which is the result of Warner Bros. Studios’ partnership with Barbie manufacturer Mattel.
Creators have also made sure that Barbie stays true to form, ensuring that even Robbie’s feet are in the tip-toe foot position.
While Barbie fans were excited after the trailer’s release, many were shocked to learn that Schumer had originally been given the role.
It was previously reported that Schumer pulled out of the highly anticipated movie because of ‘scheduling conflicts.’
But in an interview about why she turned down the role, the comedian shared some of the real reasons why she turned down the role.
Development on the film started in 2009 when Mattel partnered with Universal Pictures. But the manufacturer ended up working with Sony Pictures in 2014.
In 2016, Schumer received the titular role and was also brought on to co-write the script. Only months later, she pulled out of the gig.
In an interview with The Hollywood Reporter, the comedian said: “They definitely didn’t want to do it the way I wanted to do it, the only way I was interested in doing it.
She said that her plan for the movie was for her Barbie character to be an inventor of Jello high-heels but from there, she said that it became clear their ideas did not match.
“The idea that that’s just what every woman must want, right there, I should have gone, ‘You’ve got the wrong gal,’” she said.
A Sony spokesperson also released a statement about Schumer’s decision, saying: “We respect and support Amy’s decision. We look forward to bringing Barbie to the world and sharing updates on casting and film-makers soon.”
