Jennifer Aniston’s four-word warning to her co-star Matthew Perry amid what he thought was a ‘secret’ battle with alcohol helped ‘save his life’.
Perry, who was best known for his role as Chandler Bing in the popular sitcom Friends, was found dead at his LA home on Saturday evening.
According to reports, there was no indication of foul play and no drugs were discovered at the scene.
In a 2022 interview about his struggles with alcohol and drugs, Perry revealed that Aniston, who played Rachel Green, was the only one who confronted him about his issue.
He recalled how the actress approached him on set and warned him: “We know you’re drinking.”
Perry said to Diane Sawyer of ABC News: “At the time I should have been the toast of the town, I was in a dark room meeting nothing but drug dealers and completely alone. (Aniston) was the one that reached out the most.”
He added: “I’m really grateful to her for that.”
Perry also revealed that he was given a 2% chance of survival due to a burst colon following his opioids abuse. He revealed that he underwent 14 surgeries on his stomach and had to live with a colostomy bag for nine months.
His struggles greatly affected his time on set.
In an interview with PEOPLE last year, he admitted that he had been in rehab 15 times. “The doctors told my family that I had a two percent chance to live. I was put on a thing called an ECMO machine, which does all the breathing for your heart and your lungs.
“And that’s called a Hail Mary. No one survives that.”
