‘I Gave My Baby A Common Name But People Can’t Pronounce It Correctly And It’s Infuriating – I Had To Change The Spelling’


A mother has shared her frustration on social media as she claimed that no one can pronounce her baby’s name properly that she had to change the spelling.

There is no doubt that picking a name for your little bundle of joy can be a daunting task. While many parents opt for unusual monikers, they also want to make sure that they won’t regret it in the long run.

Australian mom Hannah Sands took to TikTok and shared that she and her partner Paulo named their son Raul but they said people can’t pronounce it.

Only minutes after their son was born, people already started mispronouncing his name.

“Some people don’t tell you when you become a parent, how weird it is when you name your baby,” Hannah said in her video.

“Not that it’s not enough of a mess around picking a name for your baby, but picking a name that no one can pronounce… it’s been a TIME.”

She then revealed that she had to change her son’s spelling.

Hannah continued: “Australians are so annoying with names that are the tiniest bit foreign.”

She also explained that she and her husband, a Brazilian, did not want their child to face the same struggles Paulo experienced.

“My husband’s name is Paulo, it’s not that hard. But everyone here calls him Paul-O and it drives him crazy,” she said.

But as soon as their son was born, people started mispronouncing his name.

“Oh, like R-a-u-l, like Paul with an R. Roll,” she said.

“When I tell you no one can pronounce our son’s name in Australia like what is wrong with you people?” the frustrated mom expressed.

“Raoul.. RA-OOL. My own mother came to see us in the hospital and asked his name and I said ‘Raul’. She goes ‘Rorl. Rorl? There are moments where I’m just like, wow it would be easier if we chose one of the other names. But his name is Raoul.”
