A furious mom has shared how she banned her mother-in-law from seeing her daughter after the young girl returned home crying.
Posting on Reddit, the mom explained her daughter, Vihana, spent the weekend with her in-laws.
“They’ve had my daughter over for weekends and holiday stays before so I wasn’t worried about anything happening, and Vihana seemed fine during our morning and nightly phone calls,” she wrote.
But the mom was shocked when she picked her daughter up as her previously long and curly hair became straight and shorter.
“I was shocked to see her almost waist-length hair was now shoulder-length and that it was now straightened. Vihana has been determined to grow her hair out since she was in the sixth grade and has expressed no desire to straighten her normally curly hair before,” she went on.
The angry mom continued and said that her daughter was crying, adding that her grandma “had done this all herself, and lied to her that I have my permission for my mother-in-law to do this which is why she didn’t mention it when we talked.”
After comforting her daughter, the mom told her husband about what happened and what they should do about the situation.
The couple then agreed that the mother-in-law would be banned from seeing her granddaughter until ‘she learned to respect Vihana’s boundaries.’
“My mother-in-law is furious with me for trying to keep her away from her granddaughter, and for telling My father-in-law what happened because he’s now staying in a hotel and contemplating their marriage,” she went on.
Her post received hundreds of replies, with one person commenting: “It wasn’t your daughter’s best interest. It actively when against her desires and her body autonomy. She lied to your daughter, to her husband, and actively did something she clearly knew was wrong.”
Another wrote: “The lying about having your permission is what really gets me. Lying to her granddaughter, lying to her husband… what did she expect to happen?”
