Newlyweds have been branded cheap after they revealed that they served their wedding guests McDonald’s on their big day.
Thomas Billaudeau and his wife Ophelie refused to spend thousands on the traditional three-course dinner and decided to serve McDonald’s instead.
The groom took to TikTok and tagged McDonald’s Beauvais Tille, writing: “Thanks for the treat at our wedding.”
In his video, which has been viewed more than two million times, the bride can be seen holding the microphone while motioning to the back of the room.
Guests then turned around and cheered when a McDonald’s delivery driver arrived.
But when the groom shared a video of their big day on social media, they were hit with harsh criticism for being ‘cheap’ and not serving their guests ‘quality food.’
One person commented: “Given the price of McDonald’s now it’s better to take a caterer and you’ll have quality as well.”
Another wrote: “Guys stop! it’s not a question of going to the wedding for the food. But McDonald’s, what?”
The couple were quick to defend their decision and said that they opted for the unconventional meal because ‘it was cheaper’ and their guests loved it.
Speaking to Le Parisien newspaper, the bride said: “We looked at the price of some caterers but I am a fussy eater.
“I was afraid that we were going to pay for something that we did not like. If you are going to pay, you may as well get something you like.”
Many also defended the newlyweds and said it was actually a wiser decision than spending thousands on food.
One person commented: “Finally, people who have the wedding they want to have without going into debt to show off. Be happy!”
Another wrote: “I’d rather eat McDonald’s at my wedding than go into debt for 25 years for a wedding.”
