A bride has sparked a debate by revealing she saved hundreds of bucks on her wedding day by serving cheap donuts instead of a lavish cake.
Chloe Simmons is a newlywed lady from Essex, UK, who took the internet by surprise as she shared photos showing a tiered donut setup at her wedding venue.
As the bride revealed, she thought it was ridiculous to pay a huge amount of money for a cake that many of her guests wouldn’t enjoy much in the first place. Instead, she bought 144 donuts for just $50 and made a tiered dessert setup herself. She also placed a simple but delicious cake that cost her just $50 on the top, saving hundreds of dollars in the process.
“It did look more full than it does here!” the bride said as she joked that her bridesmaids dug into the yummy display before the cake cutting.
After her video went viral, viewers were left divided with some suggesting the display was “cheap” and “tacky” and others saying her idea was “brilliant.”
“If my girlfriend wanted this I wouldn’t have married her,” one watcher said.
“But you couldn’t have at least arranged it in a nice display… so cheap & tacky looking,” another wrote.
A third added: “Why even bother, just take them to Mcdo if you’re not willing to pay for anything decent.”
However, many viewers agreed that the idea was brilliant because it helped the bride save money while making sure her guests were full.
“Normalize not spending ridiculous sums on a wedding day. Well done,” one viewer gushed.
“That’s amazing unique and not spending ridiculous on ten minutes of cake. I hope this becomes a trend,” another added.
A third agreed: “Why bother spending hundreds on a cake that no one even likes in the end? Brilliant idea.”
