A grandmother who just turned 101 has revealed her secret to a long and happy life.
Mary Flip from Arizona believes indulging in tequila is the sure way to secure longevity.
The birthday celebrant, who lived through the Great Depression, and wars, and gave birth to six children, was 18 when she moved to Mexico. That’s where she cultivated her affinity for liquor and lived as a rancher.
She also met her husband in Mexico and then moved back to Chicago when she got pregnant with her first child.
The 101-year-old decided to change careers and she eventually became a renowned artist recognized by the Chicago School of Art.
Speaking to NBC 15, Mary said: “I really like to draw. And I was able to figure out that things change even as you’re drawing them. So, I was able to develop and make them look real.
“It took time but I had nothing else to do except raise a bunch of kids.”
Mary celebrated her milestone by treating herself to her favorite beer Guinness. As her loved ones partied around her, she joked: “Oh, I’ll get up on the table.”
The world’s oldest woman Lucile Randon, 118, also told news outlets that having a glass of wine a day keeps the doctor away.
Also known as Sister Andre, Randon said that her care provider givers her wine every morning.
“Her glass of wine maintains her and is perhaps her longevity secret. I don’t know – I don’t encourage people to drink a glass of wine everyday!” the staff member at the care home said.
Even though Sister Andre is ‘happy’ with her title, David Tavella – communications director of her nursing home – said that the 118-year-old is now vying for Jeanne Calment’s crown, who died at the age of 122.
