A couple hit the headlines after welcoming the first baby girl on the father’s side of the family in nearly 140 years.
Carolyn and Andrew Clark were left stunned after learning they were expecting a baby girl last year. As Andrew explained, his side of the family has had nothing but boys ever since 1885.
In an interview with Good Morning America, the couple were seen cradling their son and their newborn daughter, Audrey, who was born on March 17.
“We kept it a secret to ourselves as well. So I just assumed it was going to be blue in the center of the cookies and it’d be another boy in the lineage,” Andrew said as he recalled the gender reveal party he and his wife held with his family.
“It was a good surprise for us,” he added as he admitted that everyone was expecting the center of the gender reveal cookies to be blue rather than pink.
Meanwhile, Carolyn said she couldn’t believe her husband when he told her his family hasn’t had a baby girl in the family in 138 years.
“I’m like, ‘Oh, it’s a 50-50 chance every time. What do you mean?’ He goes, ‘No, legitimately, we have not had a girl in our direct line in over 100 years,’” she recalled.
Carolyn also insisted she felt the need to verify the story with her husband’s parents who told her that their direct line was girl-free since the late 19th century even though uncles and cousins welcomed baby girls into their families.
“It was just icing on the cake that it was a girl,” Carolyn added as she claimed everyone was just “so happy” that baby Audrey is healthy.
