A woman has revealed how she cries once a week because of her baby’s name as she wants to change it but it’s already too late.
Taking to Reddit, the mom explained that she agreed to name her daughter ‘Brielle’ right after having a ‘traumatic birth’ even though she was not sure about the name.
She thought that she would eventually like it but 18 months later, she admitted that she still cries about the moniker.
“I have literally cried once a week over my daughter’s name, Brielle, since she was born. I don’t think it suits her at all,” she wrote.
“It was a huge step away from my style, which is more traditional and classic. When people call her ‘Bri’ I cringe.”
She also explained that she had a traumatic birth experience and that her husband was not a great listener when she expressed her hesitation about the name.
“I have regretted it ever since,” she continued. “We fight about this weekly and it’s gotten to the fork in the road.”
The mom now wants to know if it’s ‘too late’ to change her baby’s name.
“Facing the questions from friends and family is definitely scary, but it’s time to make a decision and move on,” she added.
Reddit users were quick to share their thoughts on the matter, with one person commenting: “Does she know her name is Brielle? Does she respond to it? Do you like the nickname of Elle, Ellie, or Ella?”
Another said: “It’s entirely up to you, but might be awkward if she already responds to Brielle. I think it’s a pretty name personally, but my opinion, or anyone else’s, doesn’t really matter. Tell people to call her Brielle and not shorten it if you don’t like Bri..I also hate it when people shorten names without asking.”
A third added: “Personally, I think 18 months is too old to be changing her name. But that’s just me. I’d try out some nicknames like Elle or Ellie or even use her middle name.”
