While some etiquette experts say that men should expect to pay in full during the first date, others say that women can at least offer to chip in.
But one woman who went on a date with a man she’d been texting for weeks has shared how her date suddenly ditched her after she ordered four plates of a dozen oysters.
The frustrated woman, who goes under the username @equanaaa on TikTok, explained that her date excused himself to go to the toilet as she devoured her oysters.
She said that those four plates were just her appetizer and she also ordered crab cakes and potatoes.
Equana explained that they had been texting each other for weeks before they agreed to meet at Fontaine’s Oyster House in Atlanta.
She thought that her date would be willing to pay for everything as he was the one who invited her out so she decided to help herself with dozens of oysters.
But when the fourth plate arrived, her date looked at her in surprise and excused himself to go to the restroom.
“Y’all when the fourth one came out he was looking at me crazy,” Equana said, adding that she didn’t care because he was the one who invited her.
“Why he say he was going to the bathroom and never came back? The f***? It’s been 10, 20, 30 minutes… Had to end up grabbing the tab… Left me with his one f***ing drink,” he added.
Equana ended up paying $184 for her meal but revealed that her date sent her a message saying: “I offered to take you out for drinks and you ordered all that food – I can Cashapp the total for the drinks.”
