Dolly Parton has opened up about her ‘open’ relationship with her husband, Carl Dean, and shared how they make it work.
It was in 1964 when the couple met outside their local launderette before getting married only two years later.
After 56 years, the Jolene hitmaker and her husband are still together even though they are in an ‘open relationship.’
Most people might think that an open relationship means sleeping with other people but that is not how Dean and Parton see it. They just let each other flirt with other people but they will always return home to each other.
In her book ‘Dolly on Dolly, Interviews and Encounters with Dolly Parton,’ she wrote: “Men are my weakness. Short, fat, bald, or skinny — I’ve had crushes on some very unusual men but Carl knows I’ll always come home and I’m not having sex with these people — I’m just flirting and having fun.
Parton explained that she’s not jealous and her husband is also not jealous.
“He knows I flirt. He flirts too. Yes, it’s an open relationship, but not s*xually and I would kill him if I thought he was doing that,” Parton continued.
“He would shoot me too. At the end of the day we love each other madly.”
In a 2022 interview with E! News, the country singer shared how they keep their marriage ‘spicy.’
“Every day, I put on some makeup and fix my hair because I think, ‘Well, the whole world, I’m out here and everybody else sees me all dressed up, and I’m not going to just kind of go home and just flop on him,’” she expressed.
“Nobody wants to make out with a slouch! It’s important to me that I look as good as I can,” Parton continued.
“I think it kind of helps keep things spicy.”
