The young lady in question revealed that she and her fiancé are high school sweethearts who lived together for nearly four years during their college years. After the man grew lazy and did nothing but “sleep and play video games,” however, the woman dumped him.

Years later, the pair reconnected and the woman was pleasantly surprised to see her ex become “such a good man.” They have since realized they were still in love with each other and began dating again.

Fast-forward to the point where the man asked his girlfriend to marry him, the woman revealed she was stunned when her special one asked her to sign a prenup.

“We end up in different cities due to work. We are now engaged but he is under contract so it’s expected that I move with him. He has also just bought a house because his mortgage for a three-bed is cheaper than his paying for a one-bed apartment. He put $15,000 down and I’ll be paying $900 a month towards bills, which I had no issue with,” she wrote.

Speaking of her fiancé’s calls for a prenup, she added: “This rubs me the wrong way. I understand wanting to protect assets but like we have been together since 15, and well if we put tally marks to it – he owes me money? I would have to relocate and find a new job in his town which the only reason I’d go there is for him.

“I agreed but told him we needed to settle his ‘debts’ with me and have an established leasing agreement. This offended / made him super upset. We have a notarized contract cause I took out 10k in loans after he lost his scholarships one semester and was denied approval. Despite being used by him, I have been paying for it and never asked for money back before now.

“His car cost $6,000 and I ‘loaned’ him $2,500 of it. Never got a dime back, although he said he would pay it back – I never really pressed it though. I paid almost all bills for two years after he had quit his job. I didn’t ask for any back, but I sure as h*ll pointed it out.”

The woman admitted that her relationship has hit the rocks since the disagreement and that they are no longer sure how to proceed.

After asking Reddit for help, the woman received plenty of support with the majority of viewers backing her and suggesting the man was out of line for making demands after all the money he had borrowed from her.

“You’re engaged to this person? The same person who thought nothing of financially using you and thought nothing of it. Take that $900 per month and find a good counselor. Make it a very, very long engagement while you figure things out,” someone wrote.

“I think your request was totally reasonable. If he wants a prenup, you need to even the score first. I don’t understand how he expects you to not be offended by the prenup, while simultaneously being hurt by your request for what you are owed,” another advised.
