A food delivery driver has sparked a lengthy debate after refusing to give a customer the meal they ordered because they only tipped her $8.
The DoorDash driver has gone viral on social media after the customer’s Ring doorbell camera captured their interaction.
In the viral clip, which has been more than a million times, the female delivery driver can be seen calling out the customer for giving her only $8 for a 12.5-mile trip to pick up and deliver his food.
The woman claims that it took her 40 minutes to complete the delivery, which saw her drive from Commack, Long Island to Smithtown.
The video starts with the woman ringing the doorbell. The customer can be heard saying that she could leave the food on the doorstep.
She then said: “Uh, no. I can speak to you, actually.”
The driver then told the customer that he ‘must not have realized’ where she had to drive from because if he knew, he would’ve tipped her more than $8.
But the customer argued and said it should’ve taken her only 15 to 20 minutes to make the delivery. But the delivery woman snapped back and told him to adjust the tip.
“You gave an $8 tip,” she yelled, to which the customer responded: “Then what the hell are you looking for?!”
“I’m gonna bring the food back! I’m gonna bring the food back,” she said and walked away from the customer’s property.
People were quick to share their thoughts, with one person writing: “This woman has never worked for tips before. Eight dollars is a Home Run.”
Another said: “She’s insane. Tips are optional. If you don’t like it then get a side hustle that doesn’t deal with tips. She refused to give this guy’s his food and all she accomplished was reducing her tip from $8 to zero and the guy probably got a full refund PLUS extra credits for his inconvenience. He won and she lost.”
A third added: “So as someone who’s driven for door dash before, I’d like to point out how ridiculous she’s being.”
