In the years that followed, Adhara would often find herself getting bullied by her peers which led her to switch three schools and isolate herself from other people.

“The teachers were not very empathetic, they told me that I wish she would finish an assignment. She began to exclude herself, she did not want to play with her classmates, she felt strange, different,” Nayeli Sánchez, the girl’s mother, revealed in an interview with Marie Claire Mexico.

“She could be at school for a while but then she couldn’t, she fell asleep, she didn’t want to do things anymore. She was very depressed, people did not have empathy, they made fun of her.”

Despite her situation, Adhara didn’t let other people slow her down. Instead, she went on to learn algebra and the periodic table on her own without any help or stimulation.
