While You Were Sleeping and Mary Poppins star Glynis Johns has spoken out about her life and career as she turned 100.
Best known for her role as Mrs. Winnifred Banks in Mary Poppins, the legendary actress has a remarkable career that spans eight decades.
She made her stage debut at only a few weeks old when her grandmother, a virtuoso violinist, brought her on stage in the West End.

Johns’ mother was also a musician but it was her father, Mervyn Johns, who helped her enroll in ballet school and stage school.
She made her screen debut in the 1938 movie South Riding and gained popularity in the 1940s after she starred as Anna in the 1941 film 49th Parallel.
The actress made her first wave in Hollywood cinema after appearing in 1951 film No Highway in the Sky.
She is best known for starring as Winifred Banks in Walt Disney’s musical motion picture Mary Poppins where she earned a Laurel Award for Best Female Supporting Performance.
Fans took to social media to greet the actress, with one writing: “Happy 100th Birthday to Glynis Johns. I’m watching her in the 1948 British comedy/fantasy called MIRANDA. She plays a mermaid who longs to spend time on land after she meets a married man who fell in the water while fishing.”
Another said: “Happy birthday Glynis Johns, one of my all-time favorite actresses. Be she a mermaid, a suffragette, or sending in those clowns, there’s never been a woman (or a voice) quite like her.”
A third added: “Glynis Johns – Happy, happy birthday, and for all of the magic across the years, thank you!”
