This question has left both kids and adults around the world baffled for years and has even prompted lengthy debates.
Is the Disney character Goofy a dog?
There is no doubt that Mickey is a mouse and Donald is a duck but when it comes to Goofy, people are left scratching their heads.
Many are quick to mention that Goofy’s character is complicated by Mickey’s dog Pluto, who does not show any human-like characteristics.
Unlike Pluto, Goofy walks on two legs and his facial features are not super doglike.
Disney fans are then left wondering what Goofy is exactly, and many even thought he was a cow because of his on and off romance with Clarabelle Cow.
“The people have been debating for years and years… Is goofy a dog or a cow?” one Twitter user asked.
Thankfully, the ‘official voice actor’ of Goofy has come to the rescue and finally clarified what Goofy is actually meant to be.
Bill Farmer, who was chosen by Disney to voiceover both Goofy and Pluto, confirmed to Yahoo! News that Goofy is ‘not a dog’ at all.
“Pluto is a dog, but Goofy seems to be in the canine family in the same way that a wolf is not a dog, but they also are in the canine family.
“I think Canis Goofus is the technical Latin term for what Goofy is. He’s just Goofy.”
Farmer also thought of the two songs in the 1995 A Goofy Movie as giving better insight into Goofy.
“I got the sense that this is a little more heart, a little bit more of an intimate portrayal of what Goofy is like inside than we’d ever done before,” he said.
