The Duke and Duchess of Sussex turned down Prince Charles’ open invitation amid claims that their relationship was ‘lost’.
Royal sources have revealed that the Prince of Wales invited Prince Harry and Meghan to stay with him ahead of the couple’s trip to the UK.
A close friend has shared how the father-of-two has tried to bring his son back.
“He hasn’t wavered, despite the attacks, which seem to be coming with increased vigor,” the source revealed.
“The Prince of Wales reiterated his invitation for Harry and Meghan, and the whole family if they wished, to come and stay with him this summer while he is at his home on the Balmoral estate.
“He thought it might be a good opportunity for everyone to take stock and relax, but the invitation was declined.”
The former actress previously suggested that her husband felt his relationship with his father was over after their decision to step down from their royal duties.
Speaking with The Cut magazine, Meghan revealed: “Harry said to me, ‘I lost my dad in this process’. That’s his decision.”
But the couple’s friend and biographer Omid Scobie was quick to make clarifications about the Duchess of Sussex’s statement.
“I understand that Prince Harry is referring to Meghan’s loss of her own father, and Meghan is saying she doesn’t want Harry to lose his,” he said.
Harry and Meghan are set to appear in Manchester for the One Young World summit, an event that brings young leaders from over 190 countries together.
Then they will fly to Germany for the Invictus Games One Year To Go event before going back to the UK for the WellChild Awards in London.
It is understood that the Sussexes will be staying at Frogmore Cottage, just a walking distance from Prince William and Kate Middleton’s new home.
