Prince Harry and Meghan Markle have promised the Queen that she will get to see her great-grandchildren Archie and Lilibet soon.
The couple made the vow during their visit as they opened up the possibility that they will fly back from America for the Platinum Jubilee.
The Duke and Duchess of Sussex flew to the UK on Thursday for a secret meeting with the Queen, who has yet to meet Lilibet.
Harry and Meghan also saw Prince Charles and the Duchess of Cornwall but they were not able to meet Prince William, who was on a skiing holiday in the French Alps with his wife Kate and their children Prince George, Princess Charlotte, and Prince Louis.
The Cambridges were aware of the couple’s visit.
This is Sussex’s first joint trip to the UK since they stepped down from their royal duties in March 2020.
Senior royal sources have described the secret meetings as ‘incredibly warm and good natured’ and ‘very cordial.’
The Sussexes also told the Queen their plans to return so that Her Majesty can spend time with grandchildren Archie and Lilibet.
A source close to the couple said: “Both the Duke and Duchess are very mindful the Queen is getting older and has had health issues associated with her great age.
“They have made it clear they are certainly planning to return to see the Queen with their family in the near future.”
The Queen’s 70 years on the throne will be celebrated across the country from June 2 to 5. Royals will unite for the annual ‘Trooping the Colour’ and a special gathering at St. Paul’s cathedral.
“It’s certainly a possibility the Duke and Duchess could attend the celebrations,” a source said.
