The Duke of Sussex had a strained relationship with the Queen’s top aide, Sir Edward Young, the High Court has heard.

According to Prince Harry’s legal team, ‘significant tensions’ exist between the Queen’s Private Secretary and the duke.

Their relationship was brought to light as part of the 37-year-old royal’s legal battle against the Home Office after he was told that he would no longer receive the ‘same degree’ of protective security during his visits in the UK with his wife Meghan and their two children.

The High Court now heard how members of the Queen’s staff have been involved in the decision involving the Duke of Sussex’s police protection.

The duke’s representative, Shaeed Fatima QC, told the court: “He (Prince Harry) didn’t know at that stage that the Royal Household was involved at all … he was told it was an independent decision.”

She also said that it was not ‘appropriate’ for senior members of the Royal Household or Sir Edward to be involved in the decision.

Ms. Fatima also suggested to the High Court that Harry’s concerns as well as his offer to pay for their own security had not been ‘fully communicated’ to the Executive Committee for the Protection of Royalty and Public Figures (Ravec).

The royal’s representatives previously said that he wanted to bring Meghan and their children to UK but were “unable to return to his home” because it was dangerous.

The Sussexes visited the UK for the Queen’s Platinum Jubilee celebrations after being given ‘cast iron assurances’ that they would receive protection from specialist police.

According to Daily Mail, Ms. Fatima said that Harry was denied the chance to make representations directly to Ravec, adding that he was ‘materially prejudiced’ as ‘among other things, his offer to pay (for his security) was not conveyed to Ravec before the decision was made.’

“It is arguable that, if there had been a fair process, Ravec would or could have reached a different decision,” she added.
