Photos of long lines captured in the UK have gone viral as they show the reality of owning a Tesla, with drivers being forced to wait up to six hours to recharge their cars.

While electric car charging spots are increasing over recent years, there are only a few fast chargers.

The situation makes it difficult for those who were making long journeys to visit loved ones over the holidays as most Tesla charging points had long queues of motorists waiting to recharge their cars.

Furious drivers took to Twitter and shared photos and videos of the queues, with many saying they were stuck for several hours waiting to recharge their vehicles.

“Bedlam @WestmorlandServ Tebay today. 2hr 30m wait for a charge. Worst journey as @Tesla driver. Q now 40 deep!” one wrote.

According to Way.com, Tesla batteries can last around 267 miles on a full charge, with the most extended range offering 375 miles per charge in the model S.

Still, many drivers still need to recharge during their long trips and the charging stations in the UK seemed to be oversubscribed during the holidays.

One driver even joked: “UK services this week have been insanely busy for Tesla charging, currently car 15 in a queue of over 20 … but you can always rely on the British public to make an orderly queue.”
