Jay-Z was spotted drinking cognac out of his Grammy Award after his controversial acceptance speech on stage.
The 54-year-old rapper seemed to be in high spirits as he poured his beverage into his Dr. Dre Global Impact Award after saying that ‘some nominees were robbed tonight.’
He was honored with the award for his great contribution to the music industry.
During Jay-Z’s speech at the Grammys, the ‘Empire State of Mind’ hitmaker condemned the academy for not giving his wife Beyonce the Album of the Year award even though she had 32 wins in other categories.
The rapper was with his 12-year-old daughter Blue Ivy when he talked about the importance of ambition, drive, and dreams.
“I don’t want to embarrass this young lady, but she has more Grammys than everyone and never won Album of the Year,” Jay-Z said.
“So even by your own metrics, that doesn’t work. Think about that. The most Grammys; never won Album of the Year. That doesn’t work.”
The camera then panned to Beyonce who was watching from their table in the audience. She has been nominated for 88 competitive Grammy Awards and won 32 of them.
Like Jay-Z, she has been nominated for Album of the Year six times but never won.
In 2015, Kanye West pretended to storm the stage when Beck’s ‘Morning Phase’ won Album of the Year.
He also said in interviews that Beyonce had been robbed. “All I know is if the Grammys want real artists to keep coming back, they need to stop playing with us. We ain’t gonna play with them no more,” he expressed.
“Beck needs to respect artistry and he should have given his award to Beyoncé, and at this point, we tired of it.”
West’s actions were similar to what he did in 2009 when he interrupted Taylor Swift as she received the Best Female Video Award at the MTV Video Music Awards.
West told her at that time: “Yo, Taylor, I’m really happy for you. … but Beyoncé had one of the best videos of all time.”
