Comedian Jon Stewart broke down in tears on ‘The Daily Show’ as he shared the heartbreaking passing of his three-legged pit bull.
The 61-year-old said that his furry companion, Dipper, had entered his life more than ten years ago.
“Dipper passed away yesterday,” he said in tears. “He was ready. He was tired. But I wasn’t.”
Dipper came into their lives after Stewart and his children went to a fundraiser for the New York City animal shelter.
He explained that his daughter and son had baked cupcakes and setup a table outside Animal Haven shelter.
“And as a little extra incentive, they brought out this one-ish-year-old brindle pit bull who…” he said as he burst into tears.
“Was hit by a car in Brooklyn and lost his right leg,” Stewart expressed.
Stewart continued: “It was the perfect idea, they put the dog in my lap. And we left that day feeling really good that we’d helped this great organization.”
With his voice breaking, he went on: “And we also left with this… one-ish-year-old brindle pit bull. We called him Dipper, and in a world of good boys, he was the best.”
Stewart also reminisced the pooch’s visits to set and how he became a member of the ‘OG Daily Show dog crew.’
He also shared how Dipper met ‘actors and authors and presidents and kings.’
Stewart also shared a video of the Nobel Peace Price laureate panicking after seeing Dipper.
“But boy, my wish for you is one day you find that dog, that one dog that just is the best,” Stewart concluded.
