Fans of Keanu Reeves’ band were thrilled after their wait finally ended as Hollywood’s nicest man reunited with Dogstar for their first performance in over 20 years.
Reeves, Rob Mailhouse, and Bret Domrose were on the lineup for the BottleRock Napa Valley music festival in California.
The band shared the exciting news in an Instagram post, writing: “Great to be back on stage! What a fantastic day we had. Thank you so much BottleRock.”
It was in 1991 when the alternative rock band Dogstar was formed. Members disbanded in 2002 before making the announcement of their comeback this year.
Reeves formed the band with Greg Miller and Mailhouse but the former left in 1995 and was replaced by Domrose.
Announcing their return, the band shared a behind-the-scenes photo on Instagram and wrote: “Last set up on the roof in Lincoln Heights for @dogstarband photo shoot. Exciting news coming soon. Thanks for being so patient.”
Fans did not have to wait any longer as the band took the stage at the BottleRock Napa Valley festival.
Speaking to the San Francisco Chronicle, Reeves revealed that Mailhouse gave him some words of encouragement before their appearance as he also feeling the pressure of a live performance.
“He was just super positive,” he said. “He was like, listen to the music. Just be present in the song, and it will go from there.”
Dogstar played songs not only from their previous albums but also from their upcoming album.
When asked why the band did not return for so long, Domrose said to the Chronicle: “It just organically happened. There was never a big blowout, like, ‘I’m never talking to you again!’
“We took a break and it was a really long break.”
Before the music festival, the John Wick actor told Billboard that being with his band is ‘something I’ve always missed.’
“I missed playing together, I missed writing together, I missed doing shows together. We came to a spot where we weren’t playing anymore, and I missed it … Once we started to play, and it felt good, and really positive and creative, that’s when it was like, ‘OK, let’s make this happen.’”
