Kelly Clarkson’s ex-husband, Brandon Blackstock, has been ordered to return ‘millions’ to the singer for overcharging as her manager.
The former couple, who share two children together, cited irreconcilable differences as the reason for their divorce.
The 41-year-old singer agreed to pay her Blackstock a one-time payment of $1.3 million, along with monthly child support payments of $45,601.
The ‘Since U Been Gone’ hitmaker also agreed to pay her ex $115,000 a month in spousal support, which is set to end next year.
While they agreed to joint custody of their kids, they will live mainly at their mother’s home in Los Angeles.
In the new documents obtained by TMZ, a labor commissioner alleged that Blackstock unlawfully booked jobs for his ex-wife and also overcharged a commission.
Blackstock has been ordered to pay back more than $2 million to Clarkson after booking her roles on the Billboard Music Awards, The Voice, Wayfair, and Norwegian Cruise Line.
He then said that he would make an appeal.
The news outlet explained that only agents are allowed to book shows for their clients. Even though Blackstock was her manager, he was not a legally certified talent agent.
Aside from that, Clarkson was repped by the Creative Artists Agency.
According to Today, this is a follow-up to the lawsuit filed against Clarkson by Blackstock’s company in 2020, claiming that the singer had unpaid commissions.
But that same year, the ‘Broken & Beautiful’ singer hit back with a petition with the California Labor Commission, alleging that her ex-husband committed numerous violations of the California labor code, including demanding ‘unconscionable fees and compensation’ while acting ‘in conflict of interest with her best interests.’
Since their divorce, the singer has spoken about their marriage and shared how their relationship influenced her latest album, Chemistry.
In an interview on the Today show, Clarkson said: “I’ve always released personal music – I think I’m that kind of writer in general, everybody knows that.
I think when you have kids – you both have kids, too – you kind of debate, ‘What am I going to do here?’ So I was very selective about the songs I picked for the album.
