Lisa Marie Presley’s friend claims the late singer wanted her estate to go to her children as her mother, Priscilla Presley, filed legal documents challenging her will.
The 54-year-old died on January 12 only days after attending the Golden Globes.
According to reports, she suffered a cardiac arrest at her home in Calabasas, California, before she died in a hospital.
Lisa Marie was laid to rest at her father Elvis Presley’s estate, Graceland, alongside the late King of Rock n’ Roll and her late son, Benjamin, who died in 2020.
She left behind three daughters – twins Finley and Harper Lockwood, 14, and Riley Keough, 33, as well as her first granddaughter.
Her eldest daughter had been listed as a co-trustee of her estate, which includes Graceland and 15 percent ownership of Elvis’ estate – alongside Benjamin following a 2016 amendment to Lisa Marie’s will.
But after Benjamin’s death, Riley became the sole trustee.
Lisa Marie’s mother, Priscilla, then filed legal documents in the Los Angeles Superior Court contesting her daughter’s will as well as the amendment in 2016.
The 77-year-old said that she and her late daughter’s former business manager, Barry Siegel, had been appointed co-trustees in 1993.
She also argued that Lisa Marie “executed a revocable living trust, which she amended and completely restated on January 27, 2010,” adding that “both the 1993 original trust and 2010 restatement appear to be carefully drafted by competent estate planning attorneys.”
But Lisa Marie’s friend told PEOPLE that the late singer wanted all of her children to inherit her trust.
“Lisa’s intent was very clear,” the friend said. “Lisa really didn’t feel that Priscilla was doing anything in her best interest.”
The source also said that the 2016 amendment happened during a time when Lisa Marie and Priscilla didn’t have a close relationship.
“Lisa lived her life authentically… She wouldn’t remain quiet when she was being taken advantage of. At the end of the day, these are her wishes, and there’s no question as to what her wishes were. No one’s going to be able to reinvent the last seven or eight years and say no, no, no.”
