Social media star Lynn Yamada Davis has died at the age of 17, her daughter confirmed to The New York Times.
Davis, who was known for her cooking videos on YouTube, Instagram and TikTok, died of esophageal cancer.
She started sharing entertaining clips during the pandemic when her son, Tim, taught her how to use TikTok.
Speaking about how her son handled everything, the proud mom said: “He’s the one who writes the script. He’s the one who does the videography. He does all the editing. So, he really is the genius behind Cooking with Lynja. I just show up.”
Cooking with Lynja has gained 18.6 million followers on TikTok, more than 2 million followers on Instagram, and almost 10 million YouTube subscribers.
Before becoming a social media star, Davis worked as an engineer. She spent 29 years at AT&T Labs where she was a systems engineer and project manager.
Davis also traveled to Japan with fellow food blogger Nick DiGiovanni.
In 2022, she was recognized at Forbes’ Women Summit as one of Top 50 over 50 Creators, receiving a Streamy Award in the editing and food categories.
Speaking about her life as a social media influencer, Davis previously said: “It’s a joy to wake up and know you’re going to have a good day. It is a lovely change in my life, definitely.”
Tim shared a heartbreaking video on his mother’s social media channels and shared some family photos that show ‘how amazing and cool she really, really was.’
“When I think of my mom, this is who I think of,” he expressed.
“The Internet’s grandma. She was the best. So glad you guys got to experience how wonderful of a person she was and that you guys treated her so well.”
