A 50-year-old man who managed to fake heart attacks in more than 20 restaurants to avoid paying the bill has been jailed.
Aidas J, who is originally from Lithuania, scammed over 20 restaurants in Alicante, Spain, before he was sentenced to only 42 days in prison.
He would order food and alcoholic drinks and before the bill arrived, he would fall to the floor and fake a heart attack.
After playing his tricks, restaurant owners in the Costa Blanca region shared his photo to warn others not to serve him anything.
One restaurant revealed that the conman had ordered several glasses of White Label whiskey and a Russian salad before falling to the floor and clutching his chest.
The conman was caught when he tried the same trick at El Buen Comer.
The manager of El Buen Comer said in an interview with the US Sun: “It was very theatrical, he pretended to faint and slumped himself down on the floor.
“We have sent his photo around to all the restaurants to try and stop him from striking again.”
A server at another restaurant in the area said: “We’ve all received a warning with his photo telling us to be careful and to not serving him.”
Another worker said to El Pais: “He lay down on the floor, acted as if his chest hurt and began to shake.”
He also dresses in ‘designer clothes’ and pretends to be a Russian tourist who can’t speak Spanish, local police said.
Because every bill he skipped was considered a small amount, he reportedly committed only ‘minor crimes’ but the owners of the scammed restaurants wanted to file a joint complaint to get him imprisoned for a longer time.
In total, Aidas got away with $766 in combined bills.
