Michael J Fox has left fans heartbroken after he opened up about his marriage to Tracy Pollan.
The 62-year-old actor was only 29 when he was first diagnosed with Parkinson’s disease, which affects coordination and balance. The condition is also characterized by involuntary movements and worsens over time.
It was in 1991 when the Back To The Future actor first noticed that something was wrong as he noticed his little finger twitching.
For 35 years, his wife Tracy Pollan stayed by his side. They share four children, son Sam, twin daughters Schuyler and Aquinnah, and daughter Esme.
But Fox admitted that he would’ve understood if his wife ‘step out’ of their marriage because of his condition, which only keeps on progressing.
Making an appearance at his charity event in New York alongside his wife and their children, he opened up about his and Pollan’s love and how he would have understood if it had been too much for her to live with.
On Thursday, he told CBS Mornings: “At any time she would have been forgiven to say, ‘I’m just gonna step out.’
“But, she didn’t do that.”
He also mentioned that it has been difficult for his wife to cope with his condition. “I love Tracy obviously and she’s an amazing person and has gone through a lot.
“I realize she has a life separate from me having Parkinson’s, from me being Alex Keaton or Marty McFly, she’s a person. I think that’s why it’s gone okay.”
He continued: “She had indicated to me by saying, for better or for worse, in sickness and in health. She was able to get me through it, and go through it with me. And she has for 35 years.”
