A baby girl has been branded as a miracle child after being given a 1% chance of survival.

Little Emmie Hope Mahoney, who is now 2 years old, was born without any kidneys in March 2021.

Soon after her birth, the girl’s mother, Andi, was told by the doctors that the child had almost no chance of survival due to her condition.

Despite all the odds, the child is now thriving and living her life to the fullest after her mother donated one of her kidneys to her daughter.

The proud mama has since spoken out about the family’s struggles and revealed that she discovered her daughter had bilateral renal agenesis – a condition that prevents the development of kidneys – during her 20-week scan.

Around 40 percent of the babies suffering from this condition are stillborn, whereas those who are born alive typically pass away just hours or days after birth.

“I kept traveling to Miami to get more, to keep Emmie alive. My baby needed fluid to breathe. By the time I got to the 34-week mark, I had a [membrane] rupture,” Mahoney said as she recalled taking her child for fluid treatments while she was still pregnant.

“I hopped on a flight from Jacksonville to California with my membranes ruptured. I wanted to go somewhere that would deliver me my Emmie. Also, they gave me hope that she would live.

“I didn’t get to meet her until after she had surgery. I did not know if she could survive after the first day. It was a lot of waiting and praying.”

Andi went on to say that finding out she could donate her kidney to her daughter was “the best news” she had ever received and that she “didn’t think twice” about undergoing an organ transplant.

Fortunately, the transplant went as planned and after two and a half years of dialysis, Emmie was finally healthy enough to end her treatments and enjoy her life to the fullest.
